Fast-fit battery replacement at our Gosport workshop
If your car needs a replacement battery, call Fast Car Service on 02393 552182 with the registration and any test report. We fit suitable low-voltage batteries at Unit 31, Gosport Basepoint Centre, Aerodrome Road, Gosport, PO13 0FQ, open 7am–7pm every day. Same-day work is subject to parts and availability. The battery must suit the car’s technology, ratings, terminals and fitting procedure, rather than merely fit the available space.
Our fast-fit approach is to establish what you need, confirm the correct part and arrange the visit before you set off. Tell us whether replacement has already been recommended or whether the car repeatedly goes flat without an explanation. We offer diagnostics as well as fitting, with the particular enquiry confirmed for your vehicle. An unresolved fault needs its own assessment rather than a battery ordered on guesswork.

Start with the vehicle and the starting problem
Call 02393 552182 with your registration and the battery replacement job you need. Mention stop-start, any recent battery report, warning messages and whether the car currently starts. Ask us to confirm suitability, the quotation and availability before planning a visit.
A flat battery and a failed battery are different decisions
A battery may have insufficient charge without replacement being the complete answer. Something left switched on, a prolonged period parked, a charging problem or another electrical issue can affect starting. A battery that has deteriorated can also struggle to perform its intended job. The useful question is what evidence supports replacement and whether another cause needs attention.
Describe the sequence of events. Was the car parked for several weeks? Did the problem follow repeated very short journeys? Was a light or accessory left on? Does it start normally after charging but then fail again? Those details are more informative than saying the battery is “dead”. We do not promise that a new battery will cure an unexplained drain or a fault elsewhere in the car.
Read what to do if your car battery is flat for the immediate next step. If the pattern returns, why a battery keeps going flat explains the history worth recording. Bring those details when discussing diagnostics. Some faults require a specialist beyond our workshop scope; the important point is to understand the cause instead of repeatedly buying a battery.
What starting symptoms should you tell us about?
Explain whether the engine turns slowly, whether you hear clicking, whether the dashboard illuminates normally and whether the problem happens only after the car has been parked. If the engine turns normally but does not start, say that explicitly. These descriptions do not confirm a diagnosis by telephone, but they prevent a replacement enquiry from beginning with a mistaken assumption.
Give the exact wording of any warning if possible. A battery-shaped warning while the engine is running can relate to the charging system, so do not treat it automatically as an instruction to buy a new battery. Read the handbook and follow any instruction to stop or seek assistance. Our guide the battery warning light and charging warnings explains that distinction.
If the battery has already been assessed, bring the report and explain when the test was completed. Understanding a battery test report helps you ask what was checked, what the recommendation means and whether charging or retesting is needed. We can discuss the suitable replacement or diagnostic enquiry from that information, with any further investigation agreed separately from fitting.
Correct fitment means more than the dimensions
The replacement needs the right physical arrangement as well as suitable electrical characteristics. Dimensions, terminal layout, securing method and any relevant ventilation arrangement are important. A battery with the wrong terminal positions or an unsuitable securing arrangement is not made correct by having a familiar capacity figure. Ask how the application is being identified for your car.
Capacity and starting-performance ratings describe different things, and their numbers should be considered alongside the vehicle’s requirements. A larger number is not a universal upgrade instruction. The car’s original specification, replacement guidance and electrical system matter. If the battery presently installed may have been an incorrect earlier replacement, do not use it as the sole authority for selecting the next one.
Our articles on battery size, terminals and hold-downs and capacity and cold-cranking amps explain the information you may see on a label. If the label can be photographed safely without dismantling anything, it may help the enquiry. Registration, vehicle details and the manufacturer’s application information still need to be considered.
Stop-start cars: AGM, EFB and the right technology
Tell us whether your car has stop-start and whether you know the battery technology specified for it. AGM and EFB are not labels to ignore when comparing prices. VARTA’s stop-start replacement guidance explains that these systems need suitable battery technology and that an existing AGM application requires an AGM replacement. Any proposed change needs to be checked against the vehicle’s requirements.
Turning stop-start off does not, by itself, establish that a conventional battery is an appropriate replacement. The car’s electrical design and battery-management requirements remain relevant. Ask which technology the quotation covers, particularly if two prices appear to differ substantially. You may otherwise be comparing batteries intended for different applications rather than two suitable alternatives.
Why stop-start cars need the correct battery gives more detail. A stop-start function that is temporarily unavailable also does not prove the battery needs replacing: the car may control that function according to several operating conditions. Explain what has changed and what evidence has led you to enquire about replacement.
Battery registration and vehicle-specific procedures
Some cars have a replacement registration or adaptation requirement as part of their battery-management arrangements. Others use a different strategy. Confirm the procedure for the particular model before agreeing a job, and ask whether the proposed replacement work includes the required steps. It is not helpful to assume that every modern car uses exactly the same process.
VARTA’s workshop information identifies battery location, fitment instructions and battery-management connection requirements as vehicle-specific replacement considerations. That supports asking about access and procedure as well as the part itself. We will discuss whether the requirements for your vehicle are suitable for our workshop before you make a journey.
Our guide to battery registration and BMS reset explains these terms. Ask which requirement applies to your model and whether it is included in the proposed fitting. Diagnostics are available for suitable enquiries, but that does not mean every software or electrical repair is covered. Mention any manufacturer instruction or earlier invoice describing the battery procedure.
Low-voltage batteries and hybrid or electric vehicles
This enquiry concerns suitable low-voltage car battery replacement. An electric or hybrid vehicle’s high-voltage traction battery is a separate specialist system and is outside this service. Do not remove covers, touch high-voltage components or try to identify a battery by exploring unfamiliar electrical equipment. The vehicle handbook and qualified specialist information should govern those decisions.
If you have an electric or hybrid car, provide the registration and clearly explain which battery or warning is involved. A low-voltage battery can have specific access and replacement requirements too, so suitability needs confirming rather than assuming that the work is identical to a conventional car. We will discuss the proposed job on its own details.
What affects the replacement quote?
Battery technology, dimensions, ratings, access and vehicle-specific procedures can influence the quoted work. The replacement may be easy to reach on one car and require a more involved access procedure on another. Ask which battery is included, what labour the quote covers and whether any required registration or adaptation is included in the proposed job.
Make the total clear, including any applicable charges. Ask how the removed battery will be handled as part of the agreed work and what product information will be recorded. If warranty terms matter to your decision, request the actual terms for the quoted product rather than assuming a period or coverage that has not been stated.
Our guide to car battery replacement costs sets out useful comparison questions. We do not offer a universal replacement price for all cars. The right comparison is between quotes for a suitable battery and the same required procedure, with the scope understood before the appointment is agreed.
Check the battery, procedure and appointment together
Phone 02393 552182 with your registration and required battery job. Ask about the correct technology, access requirements, any vehicle-specific procedure and appointment availability. Tell us about an existing report or repeated flat-battery pattern so the enquiry starts with the relevant facts.
Preparing for the visit and a realistic time estimate
Ask whether the part is ready or needs ordering and whether you should wait or leave the car. Mention a collection deadline before booking and leave a number you can answer during the visit. Same-day work is subject to the correct parts and appointment availability. Daily opening gives you more choice of visiting day, while the estimate still needs to match your car and job.
If the car cannot reach us for a service, ask about recovery collection from Gosport, Portsmouth, Fareham or Portchester, from £50 with the total quoted before booking. Explain the vehicle’s condition and location first so arrangements can be agreed. This is separate from emergency roadside assistance or mobile battery fitting. Do not drive a car that cannot be used safely simply to keep an appointment.
Access, securing arrangements and required replacement procedures affect timing. How long battery replacement takes explains why one driver’s experience is not a reliable promise for another car. Our fast in, fast out aim depends on preparing the correct job and parts; ask for an estimate for your vehicle and the actual booking being offered.
After replacement: records and sensible follow-up
Keep the invoice and note the date, mileage and battery information provided. Ask what vehicle-specific procedure was carried out if one formed part of the agreed work. This gives the next owner or workshop a useful record and helps you distinguish the replacement from an earlier charging or roadside-assistance event.
If the car goes flat again or develops a warning after replacement, contact us with the date and circumstances. Note how long it stood and any change in normal use. We offer suitable diagnostics, with the particular enquiry agreed for the vehicle. A continuing drain or charging concern needs investigating; another battery should not be treated as the automatic next purchase.
For routine care, follow the vehicle handbook and any battery or charger instructions. Do not disconnect the battery casually to “reset” a fault, leave the engine running in an enclosed place, or attempt a universal jump-start procedure from memory. The article what battery voltage can and cannot tell you explains why one reading should not be treated as a complete verdict.
Planning other focused work at the same visit
When you call, mention any other service you need so it can be considered in the appointment discussion. Our five-service hub covers oil and filter changes, brake pads and discs, windscreen wipers and car bulbs alongside batteries. Each job has its own parts and suitability requirements, even when arranging one visit is convenient.
A battery change is one maintenance task. It does not complete a full manufacturer service schedule or resolve every electrical symptom. Keep other due work in your maintenance plan. We also offer suitable diagnostics; describe any concern when calling so the proposed enquiry and any work outside our workshop scope are clear.
Visit Gosport from Portsmouth, Fareham or Portchester
Find us at Unit 31, Gosport Basepoint Centre, Aerodrome Road, Gosport, PO13 0FQ. Drivers from Portsmouth, Fareham and Portchester visit this same Gosport workshop. Confirm the part and appointment before travelling. If a breakdown prevents the journey, discuss service collection or suitable roadside help first; a booking does not establish that the car is safe to drive.
Questions that help you decide and call
Does an old battery automatically need replacing?
Age is useful background, but the decision should consider condition, performance and the vehicle’s requirements. Tell us how old the battery is if known and what has prompted the enquiry. If you have a current report recommending replacement, have it ready. A car that has been parked for a long period may need a different initial discussion from one with a confirmed worn-out battery.
Can I bring a battery I have already bought?
Call before making assumptions about fitting. Give the registration and exact battery details, including technology and ratings, and explain where the application recommendation came from. The physical fit, suitability and replacement procedure still need checking. Ask whether the proposed job is acceptable before travelling with a part that may be unsuitable for the car.
Do you need more than my registration?
The registration is the starting point. Model, engine, year, stop-start details or manufacturer information may also be needed to identify the correct application and procedure. Mention any modification or uncertainty about the battery currently installed. If you cannot safely reach or read its label, say so; do not dismantle components merely to prepare for a telephone enquiry.
Is a new battery guaranteed to fix clicking or a warning?
No. Clicking, non-starting and charging warnings can have different causes. Explain the symptom and bring any existing assessment. We can discuss a suitable diagnostic enquiry before replacement is agreed. If the investigation needs another specialist, that should be clear before fitting. A new battery should address an identified replacement requirement rather than be promised as a cure for one ambiguous symptom.
Can I arrange another job at the same time?
Tell us about any other focused job or diagnostic concern when calling, so the combined appointment can be considered. A confirmed battery replacement and worn wiper blades can often be discussed together, but each part and job still needs checking. Mention your time constraints early and do not postpone an urgent safety problem simply to combine visits.
